From 14-17 February 2026, sailors from the Yacht Club de Monaco were competing in the Italia Cup, an Italian national event that attracted nearly 400 entrants divided into three ILCA categories. Complex logistics and conditions left their mark on this meeting with the result that only four races were validated over the four days. But despite the constraints, the Monegasques pulled some fine performances out of the bag as evidenced by Mark Slotboom’s podium finish in the U16 and 11th place overall.

Italia Cup ILCA: a strong field and demanding conditions

With 161 participants in ILCA 4, this was a particularly large fleet. In this highly competitive environment, only Antoine Sauval and Mark Slotboom managed to finish the regatta from the Monegasque team.

Mark Slotboom delivered a solid performance to rank 11th overall and clinch 3rd in the U16 category. He finished 9th, 9th and 3rd in the races, a consistency that confirms his progress in competitive formats against well-structured international competition. Meanwhile, Antoine Sauval produced a well-deserved 10th place in the third race, proof of his ability to compete in the vanguard of a compact fleet.

Momentum maintained

This Italia Cup represents an important step in the group’s preparations. Starting next week the Yacht Club de Monaco sailors will be in Hyères for a training session with Ligue Sud, before competing in the second qualifier selection regatta for the French Championship.
