Inclusive sailing at YCM for all seasons

In this article:

Inclusive sailing at YCM for all seasons’ is not just a slogan but a guiding principle at the heart of Yacht Club de Monaco’s sports policy. With training camps, bespoke regattas and a fleet adapted to accommodate able-bodied and sailors with a disability, sailing for everyone is well developed at the YCM. And it was in this spirit of inclusion, transmission and sharing that from 18 to 21 February the Monegasque venue hosted the first national Hansa 303 training camp of the season.

Inclusive sailing at YCM for all seasons: a structured programme

This national Hansa 303 training camp was aimed at many crews preparing for upcoming competitions.  On the water, contestants worked on their starts and manoeuvres, taking full advantage of the conditions specific to the Monegasque race venue.

The Hansa 303 class is central to this approach as it was designed to enable both able-bodied and those with a disability to sail together, promoting mixed crews where performance and results are key without distinction. It therefore offers a fair and technically challenging approach to racing.

Supervised by instructors in the YCM’s Sports Section, who are trained to support sailors with disabilities, participants benefit from a structured learning environment. Transmission, sharing experiences and developing skills are the main focus of these training days, all values championed by YCM on a daily basis.

A fleet adapted to inclusive sailing

Since 2022, YCM has been ramping up its inclusive fleet which now has one AIRA 22, two Hansa 303s and an Echo 90. This investment in equipment is matched by a strong commitment to train, coach and support sailors over the long-term.  Ensuring everyone can sail requires suitable boats, qualified instructors, rigorous organisation and clearly stated values, hence why inclusion and sporting excellence really do go hand in hand at the Yacht Club de Monaco.

Countdown to the Navicap Challenge 2026

This training camp is all part of the lead-up to the 4th Navicap Challenge-Elena Sivoldaeva Trophy which takes place 4-6 December 2026. A recognised Hansa 303 European event, it is a clear demonstration of YCM’s commitment to the long-term development of inclusive sailing that brings together sailors, mixed crews and enthusiasts on the same racing venue.

Through initiatives like these, Yacht Club de Monaco is affirming a clear vision to make inclusive sailing a permanent component of its sports policy for all seasons.
