Since 2013, Monaco bay has been the stage of a unique spectacle that attracts the very best J/70 teams for the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series.

Organised by Yacht Club de Monaco, these monthly regattas have become a must-do tradition on the winter sailing calendar, attracting fiercely competitive teams from all over Europe. Friday was the start of Act III of the 2023-2024 season which saw Monaco teams out in force.

Artificial intelligence takes centre stage at Yacht Club de Monaco

Under the aegis of its collective Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting approach to build the future of yachting, Yacht Club de Monaco hosted a fascinating talk on artificial intelligence (AI) by the visionary Marco Landi, former Vice-President of Apple worldwide and Chairman of the Institut EuropIA.

In the YCM’s iconic venue combining tradition and modernity, Marco Landi shared his insights on the rapid evolution of AI, highlighting in particular its transformative role in contemporary society.

Non-stop preparation

Monégasque Alexander Ehlen is in Fuerteventura, a mecca for kitesurfers, with all the top racers for a back-to-back coaching regatta. Exceptional conditions put a smile on the face of Yacht Club de Monaco’s kite boarder who finished 7th overall at this meeting. A great performance for this athlete as he continues to pull out all the stops to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Monegasque Jérémy Moutout wins silver group

The 2024 ILCA 7 World Championship concluded in Adelaide, Australia after six intense days of competition. Superb sailing conditions brought the best out of everyone in the last few days with winds over 25 knots and two metre waves. Monegasque Jérémy Moutout won the silver group. The next major event is the ILCA Senior European Championship in Athens, Greece, 16-23 February. A total of 324 sailors are already registered in the three classes: ILCA 7, ILCA 6 women and ILCA 6 men.

YCM crosses one million litres of water treated milestone

As part of its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) policy, Yacht Club de Monaco has a number of initiatives underway such as recycling water from its swimming pool using innovative technology developed by FGWRS. Today a first milestone was reached as it passed the one million litres of water treated mark, equivalent to half an Olympic pool. It’s further proof of the success of its environmental policy that aims to get all those using the Club to think about the impact their choices have on the environment and take actions to reduce it. Every drop saved, recycled and conserved contributes to a future where this symbol of life remains abundant and accessible for future generations.

Breath of fresh air in the ILCA class

The steady light westerly that set in about mid-day in Antibes was enough for the Race Committee to launch two races on a very short course for the 420s, Fireballs and ILCA class so the regatta counted. For his first event on a Laser, Antoine Sauval from Yacht Club de Monaco came 14th in ILCA 4 out of 22. In ILCA 6 Namu Van der Linden pulled off a worthy 8th place followed by Gabriel Superina in 9th.

Objectives achieved

The 7th Marseille Coach Regatta has just concluded for the 150 young sailors in competition. Like the Monaco Optimist Academy the goal is to help young athletes progress with a quasi-training format that allows coaches to intervene during the racing. Divided into two groups according to their level, the Elite and Espoir fleets saw talented youngsters from all backgrounds giving it their all. The intense cold failed to dampen the Monegasques enthusiasm throughout the five races run in 6/12 knots.

Great start to the year for Yacht Club de Monaco

The ILCA fleet were to be found in Saint-Raphaël for the EurILCA Master, numbering around 60 sailors including a group from Yacht Club de Monaco. Depending on the category six or seven races were completed. Notable results included a hard-fought 2nd place for Pierrik Devic in the ILCA 6 Master Group and 6th for Denis Lankin while Robert McFarlane came 10th in the Grand Master ILCA 6

Leopard 3 wins Monohull Line Honours

After 10 days 17 hours 23 minutes and 51 second of racing, the Farr 100 Leopard 3 of Yacht Club de Monaco’s Joost Schuijff took Monohull Line Honours in the 10th RORC Transatlantic Race, also winning the IRC Super Zero category.

Having left Lanzarote in the Canaries on Sunday 7th January 2024, the 24-strong fleet representing ten nations headed to the finish line in Grenada in the Caribbean, a 3,000 nautical mile crossing of the Atlantic Ocean.

Fair Winds for the SEA Index

Launched in 2020 by the Yacht Club de Monaco and Credit Suisse, the SEA Index® is establishing itself as a key benchmark for assessing the CO2 emissions of pleasure crafts, with the aim of supporting shipowners committed to more sustainable yachting. To date, the SEA Index®, in collaboration with Lloyd’s Register, has carried out numerous assessments of superyachts, a meticulous process to ensure the accuracy of the ratings. This initiative is fully in line with the collective “Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting” approach. A growing number of superyacht owners are already adopting more sustainable practices by personal choice and aiming for higher standards. It is they who are driving change by engaging shipyards and funding the research and development associated with their projects.
