Django clinched a well-deserved 4th place in Spain after eight races at the 44th Copa del Rey in Palma that attracted around a hundred teams across six classes. A major fixture on the international calendar it has been a flagship event for decades in the Mediterranean sailing world.
Eight races were completed during the week in the Azulmarino ORC C category, with Django quickly establishing their position in the lead pack. YCM member Vittorio Lombardi Stronati and his crew set the tone from the very first race by finishing 3rd, a strong start that put them within striking distance of the leaders.
Against teams like the Germans on Niramo and Earlybird, Django remained a serious contender throughout the week. Vittorio Lombardi Stronati’s team further upped their game to secure two more third-place finishes to maintain their position near the top of the leaderboard: an impressive level of consistency for this type of contest.
The Bay of Palma is famous and much appreciated by international sailors. After excellent weather conditions marked the start of the regatta, there were times when more unstable winds reshuffled the pack in some classes. This year, Django clinched 4th place on these Spanish waters. Yacht Club de Monaco and its racing members are regulars at this major event, with several coming every year to pit themselves against international teams racing on the circuit.
