Basil Vasiliou claimed 7th place at the Six Metre European Championships on Lake Geneva. Around 50 boats made the trip to compete in this European event. Sailing on Jane Ann, the Yacht Club de Monaco member demonstrated his consistency at this level by finishing near the top of the ranking.

Basil Vasiliou claims 7th place after eight races

For Basil Vasiliou from Yacht Club de Monaco his abilities were again confirmed at this European event. Having kicked off the contest with an excellent 2nd place in the first race, he maintained this momentum throughout the championship, consistently finishing in the top three, demonstrating his mastery of the fleet. Despite two 11th places that shook up the ranking he ended the event in an impressive 7th place on Jane Ann in the Open category.

A picture postcard setting

Against a magnificent backdrop, this European event on Lake Geneva’s race venue proved the perfect picture postcard, with the Salève, Jura Mountains and Mont Blanc the primary spectators. A total of 31 boats were on the start in the Classic category, with 18 battling it out in the Open class. Yet the scenery did not outshine the intensity of the sporting spectacle, as crews had to keep a cool head during this summer event where very light wind conditions prevailed.

Building on 2025

Basil Vasiliou claimed 7th place at the European Championship, a result that mirrors his performance last season. This top 10 finish is a reminder of his impressive performance last September at the World Championship for this class in the United States. Still on Jane Ann, he had broken into the top rankings by finishing 5th overall, further proof that Basil Vasiliou is firmly established among the best of an increasingly competitive fleet.
