Vladimir Prosikhin wins the 44Cup Puntaldia in Sardinia after a battle to the bitter end

It did not come easy for Team Nika who having built a lead over the previous days was under intense pressure from Aleph Racing and Team Charisma of Nico Poons from YCM. In light 7 to 10 knot conditions gaps were minimal and positions changed rapidly. One race was enough to reignite the regatta and that is exactly what happened early in the day. Despite a difficult start, Team Nika managed to minimise the gaps. A 2nd place finish in the penultimate race allowed them some breathing room before a tense final race. In the end, Vladimir Prosikhin and his crew claimed victory by two small points after 12 races. A victory built throughout the regatta in a fleet where no-one really dominates.

One of the most competitive fleets on the circuit

This 44Cup Puntaldia will be remembered as one of the most hotly-disputed editions. Gaps in the final ranking are the proof, as the winner’s average points were very close to those of their nearest rivals. In these conditions, there was no room for error. Team Nika was not spared with several very complicated races.

A victory built on effort

At the finish, Vladimir Prosikhin admitted it had been difficult. Between errors, adjustments and tricky conditions, the regatta was anything but smooth sailing. In such a close-packed fleet, it is often the most consistent team who prevails. Team Nika managed to stay in contention and weather the tricky moments, while capitalising on their strengths.
