YCM members were on form at the J/70 Corinthian World Championship in Marseille.
At the end of the J/70 Corinthian World Championship held this week in the Phoenician city, the crew on Piccinina pulled off a well-deserved 2nd place in the Mixed-Plus category while Pierrik Devic on Fraser Yacht finished 29th in the overall ranking.
Several members of the Monegasque J/70 class association were competing in this World Championship. Aboard Fraser Yacht, Pierrik Devic and Bodhi Van der Linden, a budding young sailor from YCM’s Sports Section, sailing with Thomas Deplanque and Nicolas Cau, finished 29th in the overall ranking. On Zero, YCM members Adrian Budde, Leandro Casali and Ediz Erguc with Hendrick Conradi were in 73rd place. With 88 boats representing 20 nations, this 2026 edition confirmed the international reach of this rendezvous.
Skippered by Stefano Roberti, alongside Antoine Arnoult, another young sailor who learned his skills in the YCM’s Sports Section, Claire Tétard and Axelle Foucaud, Piccinina came 31st overall after seven races.
However he secured 2nd place in the Mixed-Plus confirming his ability to compete against very experienced international teams. The Mixed-Plus ranking is based on the fleet’s results overall and rewards teams with more women and young sailors onboard, the aim being to promote a more inclusive approach while maintaining a high level of competition.
No two days were alike on the Marseille race area. Teams had to contend with very different wind conditions throughout the Championship. There was a steady wind for some races, while for others conditions were much lighter.
The final day’s breeze oscillating between 6 and 9 knots further emphasised the importance of positioning and anticipating gusts
If YCM members were on form at the J/70 Corinthian World Championship, it was down to the groundwork put in over several years, an approach that has enabled Monegasque teams to compete at the biggest events in this class.
