Nicolas Lelu secured a podium finish in the double-hander event at the EUROSAF Inclusive European Championship. Competing on Hansa 303 boats off the coast of Gdynia, Poland, sailors at the competition had a choice of the double-hander and/or single-hander categories. The Yacht Club de Monaco sailor claimed the bronze medal alongside Gauthier Bril, a member of the French national team. In the single-handed event, he finished 13th. Both results are testimony to how far he has progressed against tough European competition.
Nicolas Lelu and Gauthier Bril secured the bronze medal after seven races in a particularly hard-fought competition. The event attracted an international fleet vying for position on the course. The format is similar to that of the Navicap Challenge-Elena Sivoldaeva Trophy.
Organised by the Yacht Club de Monaco since 2023, the event gathers experienced and novice sailors, sailors with disabilities and able-bodied participants, and especially international crews sailing in the double-hander category. The initiative is a cornerstone of YCM’s commitment to making sailing accessible to everyone.
While Nicolas Lelu secured a podium finish in the double-hander event, he also delivered a solid performance in the single-hander races during the first phase of the Polish competition. Despite mixed weather conditions, the Race Committee managed to start and validate six races. Facing a high-calibre field that included eight world medallists, Nicolas Lelu did very well to finish 13th in the final overall ranking.
No sooner had this new competition concluded and the YCM sailor was already looking ahead to the rest of the season, with the Hansa European Championship in Barcelona in September firmly in his sights.
