YCM were fine-tuning preparations on Lake Geneva in Hansa 303. Christiane-Eugénie Gautier and Nicolas Lelu, supervised by Yacht Club de Monaco coach Alexandre Richard, took part in the second national training session held at Sciez on the French banks of Lake Geneva. It was an important event as this is the venue that will host the 2027 World Championship.
The training weekend was particularly significant, as sailing in Sciez is already a way of preparing for this major event. The venue requires precision and a keen understanding of the wind conditions, skills that will be essential in the long term.
Around 30 sailors took advantage of the training course, the goal of which went way beyond just sailing. On-water sessions were an opportunity to fine tune settings, trajectories and coordination. Ashore they worked on less obvious but essential aspects including communication during races and managing disputes. Practical exercises required participants to deal with protest scenarios in a very hands-on approach.
The group benefited from the experience of Mathilde de Kerangat, former top-level Olympian ILCA sailor at Rio 2016 and Junior World Champion. Her precise and direct perspectives from outside helped participants to refine technical choices and race tactics.
This training camp is part of a logical progression to build solid foundations, technically and in how to manage a race. Next step is the French Championship 14-17 May at Lac de l’Ailette before the annual Navicap Challenge-Elena Sivoldaeva Trophy in Monaco, which this year takes place 4-6 December 2026.
