27th July – 3rd August

Moonlight on the podium

Over 120 teams representing 23 nationalities from all walks of life met in Palma bay for the 42nd Copa del Rey. Whether aficionados, America’s Cup winners, The Ocean Race stars or Olympic medallists all contestants in the eight classes enjoyed good conditions for back to back races. As is tradition, the ranking in the ClubSwan 50 was tight. The seven-strong fleet included seasoned sailors like Yacht Club de Monaco members, Graeme and Raquel Peterson, who clinched 3rd place on the podium on Moonlight.

J/70: four teams in the running

A total of 31 boats made the trip to compete in this Mediterranean classic. In a fleet packed with high level teams victory is often decided on details that make all the difference to the ranking. Entrants from Yacht Club de Monaco regularly appear in the leading pack, like Lorenzo Bortolotti (Black Swan) who was in the top ten of three races hoisting him up the ranking to 12th place overall just ahead of Pierrik Devic (Raph Seven Yacht) 13th. Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio (G-Spot) finished 18th ahead of Matteo Scandolera (Irruenza), 25th.

New format for women’s fleet racing

The Women’s Cup saw exciting new changes to the format and the largest fleet since it became part of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE in 2019 with 14 teams on the start lines. For the first time, all competed on hulls provided by the Real Club Náutico de Palma. There was also a new Round Robin format where all teams met each other in a series of six-boat races. The Pink Wave crew proudly represented Yacht Club de Monaco during five days of racing to finish 13th overall.
