2nd for Boris Herrmann
IMOCA – The Transat CIC
28th April – 6th May 2024
After an extraordinary, very accomplished race and fierce battle to the finish, Boris Herrmann from Yacht Club de Monaco at the helm of Malizia-Seaexplorer finished 2nd in the 15th edition of The Transat CIC, pipped to the post by Yoann Richomme on PAPREC ARKÉA.
The battle between the two sailors was intense to the end. Last Thursday, when the fleet left Lorient heading southwest, Yoann Richomme (PAPREC ARKÉA) took advantage to overtake Charlie Dalin (MACIF Santé Prévoyance) from the north. Meanwhile, Boris had started his “comeback”, positioning himself slightly further south than his rivals. Without ever giving up, the German sailor gradually picked off his rivals and closed the gap with the leader to less than 15 nautical miles from the finish in New York. Just 2 hours 18 minutes and 59 seconds separated the two men.
Boris Herrmann crossed the finish at 22:42 (French time – 16:44 New York time) on Monday 6th May 2024 after 8 days 9 hours 12 minutes 31 seconds of sailing. The race statistics tell the story as he covered 3,251.31 nautical miles at an average speed of 14.66 knots over the actual course sailed, 16.16 knots over the theoretical course.
