A great introduction 

Optimist – 41^st Lake Garda Optimist Meeting – Lake Garda | 4-9 April 2023

Sunday 9^th April 2023. More than 1,200 sailors representing 38 nations travelled to Riva del Garda to compete in the 41^st edition of this famous regatta. Thanks to favourable weather conditions and a 17-20 knot wind, the juniors enjoyed ten races and the youngest eight. For the dozen racers from YCM, for those in the Benjamin category (12-13 years) it was their first international event, a challenge taken up by Facundo Rubinelli who came a creditable 27^th out of 86. Joséphine Dobbelaere finished 54^th, Louis Pompée 68^th and Jules Huon 69^th. In the Minime group (13-15 years), the meeting was also a major event for Roman Lampert who came 747^th out of 1,056, Océane Schroeder 801^st and Frederik Holst 906^th. With start lines of up to 210 boats, it was a remarkable result for these youngsters who kept up the pace for five days in the consistently strong winds. Alexandre Pompée, Riccardo Gessa, Ludovica Bonelli (all in silver) and Alexandra Santelli completed the group from Monaco, all finishing in the first half of the table.
