A total of 44 teams were to be found in Porto Cervo for the 31st Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup. Divided into categories according to size and features into Supermaxi, Maxi and Mini Maxi, boats were able to compete on a more level playing field resulting in very competitive fleets.
Six Yacht Club de Monaco members made the trip their sights set on the top rankings. Job done in the Maxi category for Claus-Peter Offen who clinched 2nd place on his Y3K just ahead of David M. Leuschen (Galateia). At the foot of the podium, Lord Laidlaw finished a well-deserved 4th on Highland Fling XI. Joost Schuijff (Leopard) came 7th while Guido Miani, winner of the recent 68th Rolex Giraglia and 16th Palermo-Montecarlo came 9th on Arca SGR.
