La Belle Classe Academy
Through its La Belle Classe Academy training centre, Yacht Club de Monaco has courses running in December, remotely and on site at the YCM. It is all part of its public service remit and as a driving force in the Luxury Yacht industry to give concrete answers to questions posed by professionals, and reinforce Monaco’s position as a centre of excellence in this sector.
This end of year programme features three courses and three topics: marine weather, protecting the environment and seamanship.

WEATHER: 2nd Monaco Weather Lab course – Thursday 10th December 2020
Organised remotely, in partnership with Navimeteo and Ascoma, this course is aimed at maritime professionals including Masters and Officers on yachts, superyachts and ships, as well as port operations officers and itinerary planners.
After the success of the first session held in October, this second one focuses on coastal weather and the challenges of forecasting and monitoring conditions in ports and marinas. It also highlights adverse weather events in the Atlantic and Mediterranean that can result in significant damage to ports, marinas, ships and yachts, hence the need for ever-increasingly accurate weather monitoring systems.
A range of experts from different backgrounds are lined up to bring their knowledge to the discussions, which include a case study for Monaco, modelling meteorological phenomena in ports and how weather impacts on safe manoeuvring of a vessel in port. This is an ideal opportunity for attendees to gain in-depth insight into how data is analysed and to discuss their real life experiences with those working in marine weather forecasting and personnel who have to implement safety measures during bad weather in ports.
These courses are designed to improve understanding of this critical subject, as well as giving Monaco a meteorological laboratory.

ENVIRONMENT: ETYC Training – 9th and 10th December 2020, 9.00am to 4.30pm
How can objectives to reduce yachting’s impact on the marine environment be reconciled with the demands for top quality service in this sector, and imperative for reasonable management of time and resources on board?
These are some of the themes that the ETYC Training programme for yacht crews addresses. Its objective is to set up Environmental Management Systems (SME) that meet the requirements of the ISO 14001 standard and develop proposals to improve the environmental performance of the whole organisation. The ETYC programme provides essential training for yacht crews so that everyone becomes a responsible player and can play their part in protecting the oceans and contributing to the pleasure of sailing in clear waters with preserved fauna and flora.
