Sunday 6th August 2023. The 28th Ora Cup Ora, an iconic Optimist regatta organised by Circolo Vela Arco ended in style. This year saw 545 competitors from 30 nations racing on Lake Garda with a Chinese contingent taking part for the first time.
After only one race on Friday, Saturday served up ideal conditions for some great battles. Despite the cloud cover, the wind blew 12 to 18 knots from the south. After some very good results clinched in the Coupe Internationale d’Eté in France, the Monegasques were out on the water again for this world-renowned event. In the Minimes (13-15yrs), Alexandra Santelli came 45th in the silver category while Alexandre Pompée finished 7th in the bronze.
In the younger Benjamin (12-13yrs) Joséphine Dobbelaere came 34th ahead of Facundo Rubinelli 38th, while Louis Pompée made it into the top half of the ranking in 55th ahead of Jules Hon in 63rd.
Count down now to the Trofeo Lombardi in Malcesine for the young Optimist hopefuls in the Yacht Club de Monaco’s Sports Section.
