Monaco Tagging Tournament 23-25 July 2021
Thursday 22nd July 2021. For the third year, the Monaco Tagging Tournament will take place in Monegasque waters. Organised by the Association Monégasque de Pêche Sportive (big sea fishing) in collaboration with Yacht Club de Monaco and Fédération de Pêche en Mer Monégasque, the aim is to catch, tag and release species, including Bluefin tuna, so the scientific community can gather data on the behaviour of threatened species.
Five YCM members are taking part including Alain Bermont on Liberté, Hélène and Bernard Prat on Semabhel IV, Leopoldo Seralvo on Snipe II, Guillaume Rebilly on Made in Mako and Gerardo Organelli on Altea 2.
The goal this year is to tag more fish than previous editions. In 2019, a total of 127 tuna were caught and 60 tagged. The best boat caught 17.
Starting Friday 23rd July, participants start the contest with some tag and release training given by the Fédération de Pêche en Mer Monégasque. Saturday and Sunday they will head out to sea at dawn, and have several hours in which to catch, tag and release as many as possible with video footage taken on board to verify that release procedures were carried out correctly.
