5.5 World Championship – Porto Cervo – 24-29 September
Friday 29th September 2023. Edward Wright is one of those sailors who competes a lot and wins a lot. After excelling himself at the start of the year in the Finn Gold Cup which he won in style, the Yacht Club de Monaco member pocketed another prize, this time with a crew. It was in Porto Cervo that the sailor made headlines again in becoming the 5.5 World Champion on Aspire. Everything was decided on the last day. While the 34-strong fleet (representing 10 nations) was waiting on the water, a light 8-9 knot breeze finally kicked in, enough to launch a race to decide the final rankings. “It was a great regatta. Porto Cervo is an amazing venue with very good winds and a good mix of sailing conditions – wavy, flat, windy, light, medium, etc. that tests all your skills. Being a member of the crew on Aspire has been fantastic and I’m happy to have won the World Championship. It was stressful, with lows and highs, but in the end we emerged the winners,” said a delighted Edward Wright.
