E-Sailing Autumn Championship

 

Sunday 13th December 2020. Thirty-four seasoned and amateur sailors have been meeting remotely every week for a month to participate in the E-Sailing Autumn Championship on J/70s, organised on Virtual Regatta Inshore by the Yacht Club de Monaco.

 

While the backdrop may have been virtual, the format takes inspiration from real-life conditions on the water for start procedures, tactics, strategy and weather forecasts, under Racing Rules of E-Sailing set by World Sailing. Nine races were completed in the qualifying rounds, led with panache by Tangi Le Goff followed by Matteo Scandolera. Mathis Duplomb, a young racer from the YCM’s Sports Section kept up the pace to finish a comfortable 3rd and go through to the finals. The grand finale proved as intense as the championship.
