Monaco Optimist Team Race

January 2025

For the last 11 years, the team racing elite have descended on the Principality for the Monaco Optimist Team Race. All aged under-14, 18 teams of four compete on a level playing field. The round robin phase when all teams meet each other is followed by the quarter- then semi- then finals which are the highlight of the event. For all contestants the over-riding goal is to help their team win as many matches as possible to stay at the top of the leader board. Organised by Yacht Club de Monaco, the Monaco Optimist Team Race has become the benchmark for young teams from all over the world.

Inspired by the America’s Cup, match racing is a sport in its own right and it is this format that the Monaco Optimist Team Race has embraced. Teams of four from each nation go head to head with all the other teams in the round robin heats, at the end of which the best go through to the quarters and then semi-finals, before the grand finale on Sunday.

YCM EXPLORER AWARDS
BY LA BELLE CLASSE SUPERYACHTS

YCM Explorer Awards by La Belle Classe Superyachts recognise owners who take their environmental responsibilities seriously. The major criteria for these awards are the owner’s conception of their superyacht, how they use it and what it can do for humanity. It could be a technical innovation that significantly reduces the yacht’s CO2 emissions, the assistance given to scientists, or just an ability to pass on and share adventures at sea so that many more people come to respect, love and protect the Ocean.

Superyacht Chef Competition

April 2025

Nine chefs working on 40+m superyachts have a rendezvous with the Superyacht Chef Competition.
Held under the aegis of YCM’s La Belle Classe Academy training centre, the competition puts the spotlight on gourmet cuisine at sea, another facet of yachting professions. Fully supported by their owners and crew who always come along to encourage them, contestants have to come up with dishes from a basket of mystery ingredients while complying with the contest’s anti-waste criteria. It is all part of the ‘Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting’ approach, initiated by YCM to position the Principality as a destination synonymous with excellence and sustainability in the sector.
