Wednesday 11th January 2023. The expedition continues in southern Chile for the crew on Sir Ernst which includes Thierry Leret from Yacht Club de Monaco’s Sports Section who gave us a flavour of the last few hours on board: “We have just called into Puerto Williams, after a succession of moorings in the Beagle Channel, each one more beautiful than the others. Sometimes we are welcomed by dolphins, other times by albatrosses, penguins or sea lions. This is pristine nature in the raw and we feel so small beside the glaciers, the powerful torrents that come from them, and the growlers that skim by Sir Ernst’s hull a little too closely. The improvised log fires we have on the beach symbolise how free we feel, away from the noise of the city, the traffic, the lights and the busy lives we all lead back home”.
