J/70 Italian Circuit – Event 3 – Malcesine
Sunday 16th July 2023. It was a cyclonic weekend that finished today at Malcesine where 50-plus J/70s from 15 nations were competing in the third stage of the J/70 Cup circuit. The decidedly atypical weather conditions for Lake Garda meant six races were completed. Two of these were on the last day which remained wide open and could have gone any which way in the final race.
Yacht Club de Monaco teams made it into the top ten of the ranking for the Alphazer Trophy with a 4th place for Stefano Roberti (Piccinina) ahead of Pierrik Devic (Leonteq) in 6th then Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio (G-Spot) in 9th.
In the overall ranking, Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio clinched a well deserved 4th place ahead of Pierrik Devic (Leonteq) 13th. Stefano Roberti (Piccinina), Cesare Gabasio (TinnJ70), Lorenzo Bortolotti (Black Swan), Louis Poons (Charisma V) and Leandro Casali (Zero) complete the results finishing 23rd, 33rd, 34th, 35th and 41st respectively.
In the Corinthians, Leandro Casali’s Zero came 12th. The Malcesine chapter now being closed the circuit organised by the Italian J/70 Class will take a break for the summer so teams can participate in the European Championship scheduled for Weymouth early September in Weymouth, England.
