Test event – Marseille
Saturday 15th July 2023. With one year to go till Paris 2024, the best in the world were out on the water in Marseille for the Paris 2024 Test Event. Olympic and world champions not to mention up-and-coming dinghy sailing stars, all Olympic Holy Grail contenders, came to get a taste of the 2024 Olympics venue in the south of France. Just a month away from the World Championships in the Netherlands, the event was also a chance for athletes to see how they measure up against the competition. Without a doubt one of the most exciting is the introduction of kitesurfing to the Olympics as proven by the battles waged in Marseille.
Ehlen charts his course
The young Monegasque kiteboarder Alexander Ehlen was quick to make his mark, demonstrating with panache why he is a serious contender to qualify for Paris 2024. Of the 16 races completed in the Kitefoil category, Alexander was up there with the best, finishing half of the races in the top five to grab a well-deserved 10th place overall.
In ILCA 7, another equally spectacular discipline in terms of level and technique, the competition was tough with ten races sailed by the fleet which included YCM’s Jérémy Moutout who finished 39th in this event considered a benchmark competition before the Olympic Games in July 2024.
