42nd Rolex Middle Sea Race – Malta
Saturday 30th October 2021. Right at the heart of the Mediterranean, the 606 nautical mile Rolex Middle Sea Race course takes the fleet – 114 boats, 25 nationalities – into the Strait of Messina, through the islands of Pantelleria and Lampedusa, and even skirting the still volcanically active Stromboli. The firing gun for the start went off against a backdrop of Valletta’s fortress in Malta and a moderate 12-15 knot breeze. Yacht Club de Monaco’s Bart Weduwer (Encounter) finished 13th in the IRC Class 4, while Dmitry Rybolovlev’s Skorpios clinched 5th in IRC Class 1, the impressive 140-footer having taken the Monohull Line Honours in the Rolex Fastnet Race earlier in the year.
